Thanks to the efforts of many Veterans' organizations, you can get help with school now. The financial assistance you're entitled to is for tuition, books, and some help with living expenses. Look out for the schools that ask you to hand over the whole check. The first thing to do is check out the Montgomery GI Bill. Find out what credit you can get for your military training. Then, see what your local Junior College or State University has to offer you.

Many colleges and universities have Veterans Service Organizations on campus. Find out about the group before you make a decision on which school to choose. As examples, Las Positas in Livermore, City College of San Francisco, Cal State East Bay and San Jose State all appear to have active, helpful Veterans groups. Being part of a group that understands you will make all the difference.
